The renewable energies industry is becoming increasingly important in Hamburg. In the period from 2009 to 2011, not only Siemens Wind Power but also a large number of international companies either set up branches in the Hanseatic City or greatly expanded their existing activities here. Since 2009, around 2,000 new jobs have been created in renewable energy in the city.

The potential for renewable energies in Hamburg and throughout Germany was the focus of debate at today’s inaugural conference on Hamburg Renewable Energy Leadership 2011 held by Hamburg’s renewable energy cluster agency EEHH GmbH at the Haus der Patriotischen Gesellschaft von 1765.

Hamburg’s Renewable Energy Cluster (EEHH) is growing fast in the city’s European Green Capital year and recently welcomed the hundredth member of its supporters’ club, the Association for the Promotion of the Hamburg Renewable Energy Cluster. It was founded at the end of September 2010 by 57 business enterprises and scientific institutions.
