Wind power in Hamburg metropolitan region

Experts see great growth potential for wind power. Global installed capacity is set to grow from about 100 GW in 2010 to 850 GW by 2020. The Hamburg metropolitan region between the North and the Baltic Seas is an ideal location for wind energy plants. Major wind power system manufacturers like REpower Systems, Nordex, Siemens, General Electric, AREVA Wind and Vestas are represented in the region by either corporate headquarters or important business divisions.

There are also many small and medium-sized wind power manufacturers and service providers. While it is mainly company headquarters and research departments with an international alignment that are located in Hamburg itself, on the North Sea and Baltic coasts including Cuxhaven, Stade and Brunsbüttel many production sites can be found. So the industry’s entire value chain is represented in the Hamburg metropolitan region.
